Building Bridges: Fostering Peace & Justice in Baringo County
Baringo County has experienced cycles of conflict over resources, land, and cattle. Women and children bear the heaviest burden. The Peaceful & Just Communities program brings together diverse groups — across ethnic lines, generations, and genders — to build lasting peace. Through community dialogues, conflict resolution training, and restorative justice practices, we're creating communities where everyone can thrive.
What We Do
Our peacebuilding program works at the grassroots level. We facilitate inter-community dialogues that bring together conflicting groups, train peace ambassadors who lead conflict resolution in their villages, support women's peace networks that bridge divides, and advocate for justice and accountability. We believe sustainable peace is built from within communities — not imposed from outside.
"Before, we couldn't sit in the same room. Now we share
water sources, attend each other's celebrations, and our
children play together. Peace didn't just happen — we built
it, together."
- Rebecca, Peace Ambassador
Key Achievements
The Impact
Our peacebuilding work has transformed relationships between communities once divided by conflict. We've seen reduced cattle raids, increased cooperation on shared resources like water and grazing lands, and a new generation of young leaders committed to peaceful coexistence. Women are now central to peace processes, bringing perspectives that have long been ignored.
"Peace isn't just the absence of violence — it's the presence of justice, opportunity, and dignity for all. When women lead peacebuilding, communities don't just stop fighting — they start thriving."
- Gladys Jerop Sawe, Founder
